📅 Booking and How It Works

How Do I Book With Alexis?

Request an appointment through the site, or call or text (707) 608-4087. She will confirm a day and a time window, Tuesday through Saturday.

Do I Need To Be Home During The Appointment?

Talk to Alexis about this when you book. What matters most is that she can reach you during the appointment, and that she has somewhere to park and set up.

More on this: Full Groom

What Should I Have Ready When She Arrives?

Somewhere to park and a level spot to set up. Let your dog out to the toilet shortly before the appointment, and have a photo ready if you want a specific cut. You do not need to bathe your dog first: that is the job.

How Long Does A Full Groom Take?

It depends on the size of the dog and the state of the coat. A small, well maintained coat is much quicker than a large or heavily matted one. Alexis will give you a realistic window when she confirms your appointment rather than a number that suits every dog.

Does My Big Dog Need to Get Into the Van?

Ask about the setup for your particular dog when you book, especially if lifting or steps are difficult for them. Tell her about any mobility trouble up front.

What Days Do You Groom in Healdsburg?

Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 4 PM.

✂ Choosing the Right Service

Can I Ask For A Specific Haircut?

Yes, and a photo is the best way to ask. Alexis will tell you honestly whether your dog's coat type and current condition can hold that look, and what it will take to keep it.

More on this: Full Groom

Is A Bath And Brush Enough On Its Own?

For a lot of short and smooth coated dogs, yes. Those coats need cleaning, brushing and nails, not cutting. For curly and long coats it works best alongside a periodic haircut.

More on this: Bath & Brush

How Often Should I Book A Bath And Brush?

Most owners land somewhere between every two and every six weeks depending on the coat, often alternating with a full groom. Alexis will suggest a rhythm once she has seen and felt your dog's coat.

More on this: Bath & Brush

Is This The Same As A Trim Or A Tidy?

Yes. Some owners call it a tidy, some a trim around the edges, some a teddy tidy. It is the same service: shape neatened, length kept, nothing clipped short.

More on this: Outline Trim

Are Nails Included in a Groom?

Yes, in both the full groom and the bath and brush. The standalone appointment is for dogs who need nails more often than everything else.

More on this: Nail Trims

Is Dyeing a Dog's Fur Safe?

With products made for dogs, yes. Alexis uses pet safe color, never human hair dye, which is formulated for entirely different skin chemistry.

More on this: Creative Color

How Long Does the Color Last?

It is not permanent. How long depends on the coat, the color and how much bathing and swimming follows. Summer river dogs fade faster.

🐩 Coats, Shedding and Matting

How Much Hair Will Actually Come Out?

On a heavy shedder in season, considerably more than owners expect. That is the point: it comes out on the table instead of on your sofa over the following weeks.

More on this: De-shedding Treatment

Will This Stop The Shedding Completely?

No, and nothing will. Shedding is normal and healthy. What this does is remove the hair that has already shed but is still trapped in the coat, which is most of what ends up on your floors.

More on this: De-shedding Treatment

My Dog Is A Doodle. Does He Need This?

Almost certainly not. Curly coats do not carry the same undercoat; they trap shed hair in the curl. Regular brushing plus a full groom is the right approach there.

More on this: De-shedding Treatment

How Do I Know If My Dog Has A Double Coat?

Part the coat with your fingers. A double coated dog has a dense, soft, often paler layer sitting underneath the longer outer hair, and that layer comes away in clumps in spring and fall. If you are not sure, describe the coat when you book and Alexis will tell you what you have.

More on this: Outline Trim

What If I Really Do Want My Double Coated Dog Shaved?

Alexis will talk you through what it does to the coat and why she does not recommend it, and offer the de-shedding and outline trim route instead. There are medical situations where a vet asks for a coat to come off, and that is a different conversation.

More on this: Outline Trim

Will My Dog Have to Be Shaved?

Not always. A light mat can often be worked out with the length intact, and sometimes only the affected area needs shortening. A coat matted tight to the skin throughout usually does mean clipping short.

More on this: Matted Coat Grooming

Is a Matted Coat Painful?

A tight mat pulls at the skin constantly and traps moisture against it, so yes, it is uncomfortable, and it hides what is happening underneath.

More on this: Matted Coat Grooming

Will I Be Judged for Letting It Get This Bad?

No. It is one of the most common things Alexis sees, and it happens for ordinary reasons. You will get a plan, not a lecture.

More on this: Matted Coat Grooming

How Do I Prevent It Coming Back?

A regular bath and brush between haircuts, with the brush out reaching the skin, and a cut length that matches how much brushing your week realistically allows.

💕 Puppies, Seniors and Nervous Dogs

When Should a Puppy Have Their First Groom?

Earlier than most owners expect, because early visits are about learning rather than haircuts. Ask Alexis when you book and she will tell you what suits your puppy's age and coat.

More on this: Puppy Grooming

Can I Stay With My Puppy During the Appointment?

Tell Alexis what you would like when you book. Some puppies settle faster with their person nearby and some settle faster without an audience, and she will tell you what she is seeing on the day.

More on this: Puppy Grooming

What If My Puppy Will Not Sit Still?

That is normal and expected. Wiggly puppies get breaks and shorter sessions rather than being held through it, which is exactly why the first appointments are kept brief.

More on this: Puppy Grooming

Is Alexis Certified to Groom Senior Dogs?

Yes, she is a certified geriatric dog groomer. Gentle handling and a session paced to the dog are the core of the service.

More on this: Senior Dog Grooming

What If My Dog Cannot Stand for Long?

Positions change often and breaks come whenever the dog needs them, so nothing is held long enough to strain sore joints.

More on this: Senior Dog Grooming

Can You Groom a Dog With Health Problems?

Tell Alexis what your vet has said, including anything sore, stiff or not to be touched. Where something needs veterinary attention she will tell you rather than work around it.

More on this: Senior Dog Grooming

Do You Groom Large Dogs Who Are Nervous?

Yes, and being at home removes most of what usually causes the trouble. Tell Alexis what your dog struggles with when you book.

More on this: Large Dog Grooming

📍 Travel Area and Seasons

When Is Foxtail Season Here?

Late spring through fall, once the grass dries out. Feet, ears and armpits get checked at every visit through those months, and anything embedded in skin is a vet matter.

More on this: Healdsburg

Should I Shave My Double Coated Dog for Santa Rosa Summers?

For a double coat the cooler result is almost always a bath, a full dry and a thorough de-shed. Shaving removes the guard coat that blocks sun and lets air move, which often leaves a dog hotter.

More on this: Santa Rosa

My Dog Just Swam In The River. Is That A Problem?

Not at all, and it is a good reason to book. River water leaves grit in the coat, and a coat that dries packed down mats from the skin outward. A proper wash and high velocity dry resets it.

I Live Outside Town. Am I Still on the Route?

Say where you are when you get in touch and she will tell you straight away rather than leaving you guessing.

More on this: Geyserville

Is There a Travel Fee in Healdsburg?

A $10 travel fee applies to all mobile services across the route. Ask about recurring client discounts for standing visits.

More on this: Healdsburg

Where Does Alexis Travel?

Healdsburg, Windsor, Geyserville and Santa Rosa, about 15 miles around her Healdsburg home base. Nearby? Ask and she will check the route.

⏰ Start to Finish

What Happens on the Day

One dog, one sitting, at your door. Here is the whole appointment in order.

  1. 01

    She Parks Outside

Alexis pulls up at your house and sets up. There is no drop off window to plan around and no pickup call to wait for, so the appointment fits into your day instead of taking it over.

  2. 02

A Few Steps From Your Door

Your dog walks straight from the front door into a fully equipped grooming space. For a lot of dogs the car ride was the hard part, and this is the step that removes it.

  3. 03

    Bath

A proper wash down to the skin, with the water and the products matched to the coat in front of her rather than whatever is on the shelf.

  4. 04

    Blow Dry and Brush Out

The part that does most of the work. Drying and brushing together is what separates a double coat, lifts the loose undercoat out and shows exactly what the coat is doing underneath.

  5. 05

    The Service Itself

Whatever you booked: the haircut, the outline tidy, the de-shed. It runs straight through in one sitting with your dog as the only dog there.

  6. 06

    Nails, Ears, Then Back Inside

Nails and ears finish every appointment. Then your dog walks back through the same front door they came out of, and you never left the house.
