🐾 Coat Match
Which Service Does My Dog Need?
Coat type answers this far more reliably than breed does. Pick the coat closest to your dog and see what the work actually involves.

🐩 What a Curly & Wavy Coat Needs
A curly coat never stops growing and it holds every shed hair inside the curl instead of dropping it on your floor. That is why the brushing you do at home matters more on this coat than on any other, and why the mats show up where you cannot see them: behind the ears, in the armpits, under the collar and along the back legs.
These dogs need cutting on a rhythm rather than a rescue mission twice a year.

🐺 What a Double Coat Coat Needs
A double coat is two coats: a weatherproof outer layer and a dense undercoat underneath it. The undercoat is what blows out in clumps and what traps heat against the skin when it packs down. The work is lifting it out, not cutting the coat shorter.
Shaving a double coat takes away the layer that shades the skin and lets air move through it, so Alexis does not shave one down. Through a Healdsburg summer that shading is doing a real job.

✨ What a Long & Silky Coat Needs
A long silky coat is closer to hair than to fur, so it needs far less cutting and far more brushing. Left alone it keeps its length beautifully and then knots at the friction points all at once: collar, harness line, behind the ears and the backs of the legs.
An outline trim keeps the shape and tidies the feet, face and sanitary areas without taking the length off a coat you have grown out on purpose.

💧 What a Short & Smooth Coat Needs
A short smooth coat asks the least of a groomer and the most of the details. There is no haircut to plan, so the appointment is about a proper bath, a brush that pulls the loose hair out rather than moving it around, and nails that are actually short enough.
Nails are the part owners put off longest, and they are the part that changes how a dog stands and walks. On this coat they are the whole visit.

🧵 What a Already Matted Coat Needs
A mat is not a tangle. It is coat that has felted into a solid sheet against the skin, and once it is there no amount of brushing lifts it out, because the brush cannot reach the skin underneath. Pulling at it hurts.
The honest answer comes from hands on the coat. Alexis will tell you what she is finding while she works, and the plan follows the dog's comfort rather than a look you picked in advance.

📅 Year Round
Grooming on a Healdsburg Calendar
The seasons here decide more than the breed does. This is what each one asks of a coat.
Spring
The Coat Changes
The winter coat starts coming out just as the grass starts drying off. Double coated dogs blow undercoat in handfuls now, and the same weeks are when the first foxtails appear in the dry grass around Healdsburg, Windsor, Geyserville and Santa Rosa. Tidy feet from spring onward is genuine prevention, not styling.
Summer
Heat and Foxtails
Healdsburg gets seriously hot, and up the Alexander Valley toward Geyserville hotter still. This is when de-shedding earns its place: an undercoat that has packed down holds heat against the skin, and lifting it out lets air move through the coat again. Feet, ears and armpits get checked, because foxtails travel one direction only.
Fall
Still Dry, Still Sharp
The grass stays dry long after the heat breaks, so foxtail season runs later here than most people expect. Dogs walking the open trails around Lake Sonoma or the paths along the Russian River come home with plenty caught in the coat. A groom that ends with feet and ears properly checked is worth more in October than a haircut is.
Winter
Mud, Then Mats
Wet season flips the problem. A coat that gets soaked, picks up mud and then dries packed down mats from the inside out, which is why the dog who came home filthy in December is so often the dog with a real mat by February. Regular bathing and brushing through the rainy months is the cheapest fix there is.

⏰ Start to Finish
What Happens on the Day
One dog, one sitting, at your door. Here is the whole appointment in order.
-
01
She Parks Outside
Alexis pulls up at your house and sets up. There is no drop off window to plan around and no pickup call to wait for, so the appointment fits into your day instead of taking it over.
-
02
A Few Steps From Your Door
Your dog walks straight from the front door into a fully equipped grooming space. For a lot of dogs the car ride was the hard part, and this is the step that removes it.
-
03
Bath
A proper wash down to the skin, with the water and the products matched to the coat in front of her rather than whatever is on the shelf.
-
04
Blow Dry and Brush Out
The part that does most of the work. Drying and brushing together is what separates a double coat, lifts the loose undercoat out and shows exactly what the coat is doing underneath.
-
05
The Service Itself
Whatever you booked: the haircut, the outline tidy, the de-shed. It runs straight through in one sitting with your dog as the only dog there.
-
06
Nails, Ears, Then Back Inside
Nails and ears finish every appointment. Then your dog walks back through the same front door they came out of, and you never left the house.

📜 The Long Version
Everything Else Worth Knowing
Every Service Comes to You
All ten are done at your home. Your dog is the only dog there, so there is no cage, no crowd and no waiting around for their turn. That matters most for older dogs, puppies still learning what grooming is, and big dogs for whom the car is the hardest part of the day.
How Often Dogs Come Back
There is no single answer, because the honest one depends on the coat, the season and how much brushing happens at home. Curly and continuously growing coats need the most frequent work. Double coats need serious attention as the weather turns rather than constant cutting. Short coats can go longer between visits but still benefit from regular bathing and nails.
Many owners land on a full groom with a bath and brush in between, which keeps the coat easy without paying for a haircut the dog does not need. Alexis will tell you what she is seeing in your dog's coat and recommend a rhythm that fits it, rather than booking you in more often than the coat justifies.
What Shapes the Price
Grooming is priced on the dog in front of you, not on a category. Size matters, coat type matters, and the condition the coat is in when Alexis arrives matters most of all: a well brushed coat is quick work, while a coat that has not been brushed in months is a different job entirely. That is why a dog on a regular rhythm usually costs less to maintain than the same dog groomed twice a year.
Tell Alexis the breed, the rough size and how the coat is doing when you get in touch and she will give you a straight answer before she books you in.
Booking and Travel
Appointments run Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 4 PM. A $10 travel fee applies to all mobile services, and standing visits 1 to 2 times a week can ask about recurring client discounts. Alexis reads every request herself and gets back to you by text or phone to confirm a day and a time window. Nothing is booked until you have spoken.
